Obituary
John H. D. Adkins John H. D. Adkins died at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Harlie Gulliver, on Gould avenue, Sunday morning, Aug. 14th at 6 o’clock. Mr. Adkins was born in Bangor, June 30, 1830, son of Olive Hibbard and Henry Adkins. When a young man he enlisted in Co. K. 9th Maine. He served all through the Civil War, being honorably discharged June 13th 1865. Early in life he was united in marriage to Mary J. Shorey of St. Albans. To them were born three children: Steven J., Addie M., and Henry Adkins, Steven dying when a baby. Mr. Adkins leaves to mourn his death, two children, Mrs. Addie McKinney of Dexter, and Henry Adkins of Guilford, also seven grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. His grandchildren are: Frank Millet of Dover-Foxcroft, Mrs. Fred A. Davis of Atkinson, Mrs. Harlie Gulliver of Dexter, Mrs. Harold Clukey of Dexter, Charlie Adkins of Dover-Foxcroft, Leslie Adkins of Guilford, Mrs. Albert Boyu of Florida. Mr. Adkins will be greatly missed by a wide circle of friends for he was greatly beloved for his kindly heart and cheerful disposition. Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Harlie Gulliver on Gould avenue, who lovingly helped and cared for him during his last illness. He was buried in Ripley, beside his wife.
