Obituary
Frank H. Hayes Frank Herbert Hayes, for many years a prominent business man in this town, died at his home on Main street Monday morning at 8.30 o'clock, having suffered a shock Friday night. Mr. and Mrs. Hayes had passed the winter in Florida and returned to their home about two weeks ago. The deceased was born in Dexter, Jan. 22, 1859, the son of Loring B. and Lizzie Higgins Hayes, his father being one of the early settlers of this town. His education was obtained in the public schools. He took a great interest in political matters being an old line Democrat. By honesty, industry and fidelity to his duty he became one of the leading citizens in his home town, and well known throughout this section of the state. In 1881 he was married to Miss Ellen Moore. He started a grocery store on Wall street in 1883. He remained there until the start of his canning business in 1900. In this factory he canned corn, beans, apples and peas. He was the premier packer of the famous cranberry stringless beans. He conducted the business until 1918, when he sold out to Noyes & Hall, who have since conducted the business, and retired from an active business life. For the past ten years Mr. and Mrs. Hayes have spent their winters at St. Petersburg, Fla., where they had a home in the suburb of Gulfport. They had a son, Loring D. Hayes, who died at the age of 16 years. Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ellen Moore Hayes, and a sister, Mrs. Hattie Holmes, of Augusta. Funeral services will be held at the residence this afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Tracy M. Pullman, pastor of the First Universalist church, officiating
