Obituary
Winfield S. Twombly The many friends of Winfield S. Twombly were sorry to learn of his sudden death Sunday morning at his home on Free street, after several years of failing health. Mr. Twombly was a man whose fortitude during several years of ill health was admired by all. The deceased was born in Dexter, Aug. 16, 1861. He was a life-long resident of this town. For many years he was engaged in the plumbing business, but during his later life was employed at Fay & Scott's machine shops. He was a man of sterling character and high ideals. He was a life-long member of Plymouth Lodge, I. 0. 0. F. of this town, having served as Noble Grand in the various branches of the order and for 23 years served very efficiently as secretary. He was a member of every branch of Odd Fellowship and retained a keen interest in the order even after he was unable to attend. He was a devoted member of the First Universalist church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie Knowles Twombly, and one daughter, Mrs. Helena Harwood of Portland, and one uncle, Charles Morgan of Dexter, who have the sincere sympathy of a wide circle of friends. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday morning at 10:30, daylight saving time, with Rev. William Gould of Turner, a former pastor of the First Universalist church officiating. The Odd Fellows service was conducted at the family lot in Mt. Pleasant cemetery. The bearers were: W. L. Fay, Arthur P. Abbott, Albert H. Bentley, Peter S. Plouff, Nathan Daggett and Forest W. Parsons.
