Obituary
Harold N. Eldridge Dexter was saddened Monday by news of the death of one of its native sons, Harold N. Eldridge, of Northport L.I., who has grown to be a large figure in the world of law. The following item concerning him in the New York Times Monday will be of much interest to his Maine friends, as it shows what a prominent figure he had been in his adopted state of New York. "Harold Norton Eldridge died suddenly June 26, at the home of George Babcock in Northport. He was born in Dexter, Me., in Oct. 1874, was educated in the public schools of that town, graduated from Tufts College and from Boston University Law school, receiving his degree in 1899. In the latter school, Owen D. Young was one of his instructors. "After practicing law in Boston one year he came to Northport as a member of the Editorial Department of the Edward Thompson C. Law Book Publishers and served as a director during the last five years. He was a contributor to many law publications of that company, his chief work being as editor of McKinney's Consolidated Laws of New York and afterwards as editor of the United States Code Annotated. "Mr. Eldridge for many years was the Village Attorney and at the time of his death was president of the First National Bank and Trust Co., was a member of the executive board of Northport Country Club and was active in the Northport Yacht Club. He was also a Shriner. He leaves one son, Harold Norton Eldridge, Jr., of New York. His wife died 15 years ago. Besides the son, Mr. Eldridge is survived by one sister, Mrs. Fred O. Herrick, of Dexter, who left Monday with her husband for Northport, to attend the funeral services.
