Obituary
Mrs. L. Isabel Heald Dies, Aged 89 Years Mrs. L. Isabel Heald, 89, president of the Reliance Branch, International Sunshine Society, which she founded here nearly 40 years ago, died Sunday at her home, 265 State street. Although confined to her home 20 years, Mrs. Heald had been ill only seven weeks. Born at Dexter, daughter of Otis and Emeline Cutler, Mrs. Heald came to Portland when she was but 10 years old and had made this city her home since. She attended the Girls' High School on Chestnut street, now the Woolson Primary school. Although in frail health most of her life, Mrs. Heald was active in club life of Portland in her early married years, was a former president and the last surviving member of the Beecher Club, which studied evolution and was a former executive committee-woman of the Women's Literary Union. Nearly 40 years ago she founded the Reliance Branch of the International Sunshine Society, an organization devoted to the interests of crippled children, and even after poor health confined her to her home she carried on the administrative work of the organization. Her husband, John S. Heald, who was claim adjuster of the Maine Central Railroad many years, died in 1913. They were married nearly 60 years ago. She leaves a sister, Mrs. B. F. Haskell, and a brother, Fred W. Cutler, with whom she made her home; and a niece, Mrs. Harold B. Strout, of Atlantic City, N. J. ---Portland Press Herald.
