Obituary
Death of Eugene Hill Unknown to Relatives for Several Months Convincing proof of the death in Boston last May of Eugene Hill of Dexter, veteran of the Spanish War, has just been found and his niece, Miss Estelle Hill. has been in Boston recently in an effort to learn the exact facts attending his death and to locate his discharge papers from service. She succeeded in locating the papers and making arrangements for the interment of the body in the Spanish War cemetery in Roxbury, Mass. The body has been held in Boston for identification since his death on May 23. Mr. Hill, who was 65 years old, has spent much of his time since the close of the Spanish War in the Soldiers' Home in Togus when he was not able to earn his own living as painter and paper hanger in his home town, which he did to a large extent until the past few years. Later be was transferred to the Chelsea Soldiers' Home and at the time of his death was on a furlough. He had been in the habit of rooming during his furloughs at a certain rooming house on Appleton street, South Boston. On the evening of his death he asked someone to get a doctor for him, saying that he was not feeling well. Not long after, he passed on alone, not having told anyone who should be notified and leaving no address of relatives. His landlady knew his name and the medical examiner took charge of all his effects, including his papers, among which were his discharge papers. They were kept in the office of the medical examiner and when Miss Hill visited his office and said that she was desirous of locating them the attendant got them for her in a few moments. Although many notices of Mr. Hill's death had been put into several Boston papers in an effort to locate the relatives, it just happened that no one knowing him or his family in Dexter, saw one of them until about three weeks ago a veteran friend saw the notice and knowing only the name of John Hill in Dexter, whom he knew was a relative, he sent the letter to him and in this way it reached the brother of the deceased, Walter E. Hill. The deceased was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Hill of Dexter and he has a nephew, John Hill, so evidently the veteran friend recalled either the father's name or the nephew's.
