Obituary	Rites Held For Nathan Bucknam Nathan Carleton Bucknam, 89, died Saturday morning, January 3, 1970, after a long illness. He was born in Columbia Falls, Maine Feb. 9, 1880, the son of Gilbert L and Susanna (Ingersoll) Bucknam. Mr. Bucknam was educated in the local schools of his home town, Nichols Latin School of Lewiston and was graduated from Bates College in 1903. In the fall of 1903 he was elected Principal of Dexter High School, which position he held until 1911. In February, 1910, together with the late Joseph W. Mountain, he bought the hardware business from the estate of W. H. Carr. In 1932 Mr. Bucknam bought Mr. Mountain's interest and, together with his son, Carleton, continued the business under the firm name of Bucknam and Mountain until January, 1955 when they sold to George A. Abbott. Mr. Bucknam was a 63-year member of Penobscot Masonic Lodge, St. John's Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Dexter, DeMolay Commandery No. 10 of Skowhegan and Anah Temple of Bangor, an honorary member of the Dexter Club, as well as a Deacon and member of the Universalist Church of Dexter. He was also Chairman of the Dexter Cemetery Trustees for many years. Mr. Bucknam married the late Helen Grace Abbott of Dexter in 1907. Mrs. Bucknam predeceased him in 1956. Surviving are four sons, Carleton A. of Dexter, Nathan A. of Suffern, New York, Robert F. of Denver, Colorado, and Gilbert of Nashua, New Hampshire, thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Crosby Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday at 1: 30 p. m. with the Reverend John FJ McNally, Jr., of the Universalist Church officiating. Visiting hours will be at the funeral home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m. Spring burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
