Dr. H. Edward Whalen, Prominent Dexter Physician, Dies In Boston Hospital Funeral Services To Be Held Saturday Dr. H. Edward Whalen prominent Dexter physician and surgeon, died Wednesday morning at the Massachusetts Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bangor, Maine, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Whalen, and attended the University of Maine and Bowdoin College. He received his M. D. from Jefferson Medical School at Philadelphia, Pa., and served his internship at the Maine General Hospital, Portland Dr. Whalen, who practiced medicine in Dexter more than 25 years, was active In community affairs and organizations as well as professional organizations. He was Chief of Staff of the Plummer Memorial Hospital, Dexter, Past Medical Examiner of Penobscot County, a member of the Maine and American Medical Association, a member of the Dexter Chamber of Commerce Town Finance Board, and the Dexter Club. Active in the Knights of Columbus, he held a fourth degree Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Barbara, two sons, Robert and H. Edward Jr., and a brother, Charles, of Bangor. A Solemn High Mass will be sung Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Anne's Church, Dexter with the Rev. C. J. Enright, Dexter, officiating as Celebrant, Rev. Leonard LeClair, Chaplain at Veteran's Hospital Togus as Deacon, Rev. Edward Sheehy, assistant Chaplain at the University of Maine, Sub-Deacon, and Rev. Charles Bennett of St. Thomas Church, Dover-Foxcroft as Master of Ceremonies. Active bearers will be Robert Cinq-Mars, Ralph Tetu, Clyde Mower, Preston Richardson, Lewis Mountain, and Delphis, Higgins. Honorary bearers will be the doctors in this vicinity including Dr. A. C. Strout, Dr. Hans Schuman, Dr. H. Lewis Taylor, Dr. Howard LaBarge, Dr. F. L. 0. Hussey, Dr. L. E. Kelley of Dexter, Dr. Stuart, Dr. Howard and Dr. Dore of Guilford, Dr. Higgins, Dr. Burke, and Dr. Merrill of Newport, and Dr. Sprthan of Dover-Foxcroft. Thomas Locke, Biddeford, and Martin Cavenaugh of Portland will represent the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus at the services.
