Obituary
James Leonard Packard The entire community was saddened by the death Sunday evening, Sept. 27, of James Leonard Packard, 48, which occurred a the Plummer Memorial hospital following an illness of twelve weeks. Mr. Packard was born in Grand Isle the son of Peter and Mary Packard. When at the age of four years his parents moved to Greenville. He came to Dexter in January 1905 and learned the plumbing and heating trade with Owen Blackden. In 1911 he went into partnership with Dana Crockett under the name of Dana Crockett Co., and in 1925 bought out Mr. Crocketts share and changed the name to J. L. Packard Company. He was a member of Plymouth Lodge I. O. O. F. Penobscot Lodge F. and A. M., and Wassookeag Chapter 0. E. S. Always interested in civic affairs and all movements for the betterment of the community, Mr. Packard made many friends who regret his untimely passing. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Grace Smart Packard, by his mother and step-father Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Bursley of Dexter, by one sister, Mrs. Walter Dillon and a brother Ovied Packard, both of Milo. Funeral services were held at the home on Zions Hill Tuesday afternoon at two o clock. Rev. John Quigg of the First Baptist church officiating. The bearers were Chas. S. Brewster, Clarence N. Pierce, Dr. Harvey L. Haskell, Hanford B. Crouse, Nathan C. Bucknarn and Paul T. Higgins. An abundance of bautiful flowers were sent by his many friends. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Among the out of town people at the services were: Mr. and Mrs. John H. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dunbar of Greenville; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Young, Mr. Edw. F. Kelley, Jr., of Bangor; Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Dillon, Mr. and Mrs. Ovied Packard, Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Hatch of Milo; Mrs. Clarence Dunbar of Newport; Mrs. Emily Bushey of Waterville, Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Granger, Jr., of Boothbay Harbor, and Miss Marion E. Smart of Norwood, Mass.
