Obituary
MOST SHOCKING ACCIDENT William E. Fanjoy Instantly Killed Saturday When Struck by Car- Apparently Blinded by Lights of Approaching Cars William E. Fanjoy, 73, was killed instantly Saturday night when hit by a car while walking on the highway between Hartland and Skowhegan. His body was badly mangled by the impact of the car which was operated by Aubrey Corson of Canaan. Mr. Fanjoy had been visiting his niece, Mrs. Paul Lauridson, in Hartland. Mr. and Mrs. Lauridson and two children and Mr. Fanjoy were returning from Skowhegan to Hartland when engine trouble developed, and Mr. Fanjoy was walking to a farmhouse to get help. He was apparently blinded by the lights of approaching automobiles and stepped into the path of the Corson car. A state trooper investigated the case, and Sheriff Martin J. Gallant of Somerset county stated that Corson was entirely absolved of blame in connection with the fatality. Mr. Fanjoy was born in Houlton, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Fanjoy and came to Dexter 15 years ago to make his home with his son, Ray E. Fanjoy, Pine street. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Fannie Fanjoy of West Garland; three sons, Lyle H. Fanjoy and Ray E. Fanjoy, of this town, and Clarence E. Fanjoy of North Woburn, Mass.; one daughter, Mrs. Hattie M. Wilson, of Houlton; one sister, Mrs. Annie E. Williams of Hermosa Beach, Cal.; a brother, Charles Fanjoy of Hodgdon, Me., also several grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Tuesday forenoon at 10 o'clock with Rev. Ondon P. Stairs officiating. The bearers were Morton Bullard, Wendall Higgins, Fred Tibbetts and William Higgins. Among the out of town relatives and friends attending the service were, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rhoda, Plummer Libby of Houlton; William Libby of Amity; Fred Barton, Howland; Kenneth Fanjoy, Smyrna Mills; Maynard Fanjoy, Brighton; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Murdock, Ripley; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lauridson, Hartland; Mrs. Bertha Blethen and Fred Blethen, Guilford.
