Obituary
Ervin Waldo Tate, 66, of Old Town, former Dexter resident, died Saturday, January 31, in a Bangor hospital after several days' illness. Born in Biddeford Nov. 26, 1881 the son of the late Frederick and Emily (Mitchell) Tate, he attended Biddeford public schools and was graduated from the Biddeford High School. From 1-03 [1903] to 1940 the Tate family resided in Dexter. A former superintendent for Fay and Scott, he was a well known draftsman having learned his trade with that company. He moved to Old Town in 1940 and accepted a position as chief engineer with the T. M. Chapman Sons Company, machinists, where he has been employed until his recent illness. Mr. Tate had many friends throughout the state. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge in Dexter and attended the First Universalist church in that town. He is survived by wife, Mrs. Mary E. Tate of Old Town; two daughters, Mrs. Clarence Beverly of Dexter and Mrs. Byron Joy of Rumford; four grandchildren, Mary and Deane Beverly of Dexter; Donald and Douglas Joy of Rumford. Funeral services were held at Craig's funeral home at old Town Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter in the spring.
