Obituary
Richard B. Card Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church Wednesday forenoon at 10 o'clock for Richard B. Card, who passed away at the home of his son, J. Gray Card, in Somerville, Mass., Sunday after a long period of failing health. Rev. Loren W. Dow officiated at the services which were attended by a large number of friends and old neighbors. Commital services were held at the grave in the family lot at Elmwood cemetery. The bearers were Willis N. Nichols, George H. Knowles, Joseph Amazeen and Chalmers Moses. Richard B. Card was born in Eastport, Maine, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Card, and was ninety years of age January 19. In early life he learned the sailmaker's trade which he followed for many years. After coming to Dexter about forty-two years ago he was employed as carpet maker at the stores of C. H. Wyman and Hutchinson and Gates. During the canning seasons he also had employment at local canning factories. For a number of years he was janitor of the Cedar Street school where he won the affection of the many children with whom he was associated. He was truly a Christian gentleman, of amiable disposition and highly regarded by a wide acquaintance. He was a member of the Dexter Congregational church, serving as a deacon for many years, and was deeply interested in church activities. Mr. Card married Miss Clara M. Hinckley in 1873, and to them six children were born, two of whom Survive. Mrs. Card passed away thirty-one years ago. Following her death, Mr. Card went to board in the home of the Misses Grace and Mabel Howard and remained with them twenty-eight years, when he went to Somerville, Mass. to make his home with his son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. J. Gray Card. Besides the son mentioned, Mr. Card leaves a brother, Joseph Card, of Lynn, Mass.; another son, Fred Card, of Winthrop, Mass.; seven grandchildren and, three great grandchildren, all of Somerville and Winthrop. From out of town attending the services were, J. Gray Card and Thomas Card of Somerville, Mrs. Maude Jones, Mrs. Ruth Williams of Newport and Mrs. Everett L. Hutchins of Corinna.
