Obituary	Duane Mower This community has sustained great loss in the death of Duane Mower, who passed away in the home where he was born, and has lived most of his life, Thursday, September 15th, at 2 p. m., after a long and painful illness. During this time he showed great courage, patience, and fortitude. Born June 26, 1885, the son of Parker and Clara (Dunham) Mower, he has gathered around him a wide circle of warm and devoted friends, who, with his relatives, loved him dearly, and mourn him as those who suffer a great and irreparable loss. He has served his community long and faithfully in various capacities, a member of the Chamber of commerce, for many years has served on the Finance Committee, and more recently, the board of selectmen for four years, having been chairman of that board the past, two years. He was always interested and ready to help in any project for the benefit of the State, community, and his fellowmen. Attending the schools of Dexter, he graduated from the High school in 1904. He was a Granger for many years, being a Past Master of North Dexter Grange. During his long illness he was tenderly cared for by his wife, Jessie L. (Roberts). Besides his aged parents and his wife, he leaves a son, Donald P. Mower of Newport, R. I.; a daughter, Mrs. Althea Gould; a granddaughter, Miss Helen Mower, and a brother, Linwood Mower, and many other relatives and friends. At his funeral on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 17, a large gathering of people, and a vast amount of beautiful flowers testified to the love and esteem in which he was held by all. Rev. Ondon Stairs of the First Baptist church spoke words of comfort and interment was in the Mower family lot at Mt. Pleasant. The bearers were A. L Davis, Harry Wilkins, Leicester O'Connor, Frank Spruce, Hanford Crouse, and Ernest Harrington. Some of the out of town people attending were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Mower and daughter, Helen, of Newport, R. I.; Mrs. Florence Trickey and Mrs. Bertha Merrill of Pittsfield: Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Sawyer and Mrs. Waneta Thorne of Old Town; Mrs. Eula Hill and Mr. and Mrs. William Hilton of Harmony; Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Niles, Mr. and Mrs. Valentine McKechnie and son, Paul, of Mercer; Mr. and Mrs. W. Roberts and son, Wayne, of Dover-Foxcroft.
