At the University of Maine, he was president of the Freshman class, interrupting his Course in Forestry to volunteer for overseas service in the World War, where he was wounded and gassed in the Argonne Drive. In 1923 he was united in marriage to Miss Hazel McKenzie of Old Town. and they have made their home in that city for many years. He was a member of the Methodist church.
