Obituary
Robert Wiggin Briggs, 29, died Saturday, December 13, at the Togus Veterans' hospital after a long illness. Born in Ripley, December 8, 1918, the son of Mr. and, Mrs. Maurice Briggs, he had spent most of his life in Ripley and Sangerville. He was a graduate of N. H. Fay High school, and had served five years in the U. S. Army Air Corps, part of the time in the Pacific area with a rating of technical sergeant. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marion (Davis) Briggs, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Briggs, of Dexter; a brother, John of Dexter; a sister, Mrs. Graham Haley of Moncton, N. B., and one niece. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Free Baptist church. The Rev. Ondon Stairs of Gardiner, a former pastor of the First Baptist church of Dexter, officiated. Members of the Poulliot-Seavey post, American Legion and the Shirley B. Carter post, Veterans of Foreign Wars attended. He was a member of both organizations. The bearers were Keith Crouse, Quentin Robinson, Elwood Sampson and John Gordon. Interment was at Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
