Although he had been in ill health for several months, he was about his home as usual and his death came as a shock to the family and wide circle of friends. Born in Sebec the son of John M. and Lydia Lovell Hill, he moved to Dexter with his parents at the age of six months, and made his home in this town during his entire life. In 1882 he entered the employ of Fay & Scott where he learned the trade in the Dustin shop which was located on the lot now occupied by the Gazette Publishing Co., and was the last surviving member of the force that moved with the company to its present location. In 1914 he accepted a position as superintendent of the Dexter Water Works and served the town faithfully in that capacity for twenty-two years. Mr. Hill was united in marriage to Miss Jennie S. Tait of this town February 28, 1885, by the Rev. H. S. Whitman of the First Universalist church. They have resided for nearly forty-five years in their lower Main street home, where they enjoyed their fiftieth wedding anniversary celebration in 1935. He was a member of Penobscot lodge, F. and A. M., Plymouth lodge, I. 0. 0. F., Martha Washington Rebekah, lodge, an honorary member of the Dexter club, and attended the First Universalist church. Besides his wife he leaves a son, John M. Hatch, all of Dexter; three grandsons, James Sharpe, of Dexter, Lloyd Harvey Hatch, Jr., a student at Bowdoin college, Malcolm Hatch, of the U. S. Naval Training Station, Newport, P. Funeral services were held at the residence Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 by the Rev. Kenneth R. Hutchinson of the First Universalist church. There was a profusion of beautiful floral tributes. Interment was in the family lot at Mount Pleasant cemetery. Bearers were the three grandsons, Harvey and Malcolm Hatch and James Sharpe, and James Coughlin, Francis Coughlin and J. Leonard Coughlin.
