Obituary	PROMINENT DEXTER PHYSICIAN PASSES AWAY Dr. Samuel J. Redman died at his home following several months illness. Dr. Samuel Jackson Redman, 71, for 21 years a practicing physician in this town, died at his home on Spring street Thursday afternoon, September 28, following an illness of several months. He was born in Hermon, February 5, 1868, the son of George and Mary Carr Redman. He graduated from Hampden Academy, Castine Normal school, Bowdoin Medical school, and served his internship at the Eastern Maine General hospital. For several years, before entering the medical profession, he was a teacher in the Hampden and Winterport schools, and served successfully as superintendent of schools in Hampden and Exeter for several years. He was united in marriage to Bertha May Varney at Hampden, March 30, 1889. Dr. and Mrs. Redman resided in Exeter for several years before coming to Dexter in 1918 where they have since made their home. He has always been interested in the welfare of the town, and his death will be mourned by a large circle of friends, in this and surrounding towns where he has been known as one of the foremost surgeons in this section of the state. Dr. Redman was a member of Signet chapter, 0. E. S. and Pacific Masonic lodge, Exeter, St. John's Royal Arch chapter, St.. John's Commandery and Penobscot Medical association. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bertha M. Redman of this town, two sons, Floyd Redman of Bryant Pond and George Redman of Dexter; two daughters, Mrs. W. A. Small of Dexter and Mrs. Reginald E Taylor of Guilford, nine grandchildren, Mrs. Gaile Richardson of Ripley, Miss Eleanor L. Small of Dexter, Wayne Owen Redman, Samuel J. Redman, Elsie Fay Redman of Bryant Pond, Patricia E. Taylor, Virginia L. Taylor, Neal Redman Taylor, and Diane C. Taylor of Guilford, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Ondon P. Stairs of the First Baptist church officiating. The many floral offerings were silent tributes of the esteem in which he was held by his many friends. The bearers were, Dr. H. E. Whalen, Harry Wilkins, Earl Crowell, Linwood Seavey, James Boynton and Harry Brawn. Buriel was in Mt, Pleasant cemetery. Out of town relatives attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Redman, Bryant Pond; Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Taylor, Guilford; Mr. and Mrs. Lyndon Redman, Brewer; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Redman and Mr. and Mrs. E. Redman, Bangor; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Stevens, Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. George Varney and Mrs. Maisie Varney, Hampden; Mr. and Mrs. Percy Porter, Presque Isle; Mrs. Addie Redman, Burnham and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Richardson of Ripley.
