Martha Copeland died May 24, 1861. Samuel Copeland's second wife was Nancy Jane Safford, daughter of Calvin and Rozilla (Shepley) Safford, whom he married July 6, 1862. She died Feb. 3, 1919. Samuel Copeland received his education in the common schools of Dexter and at Hartland Academy.
