Obituary
John D. Thornton John D. Thornton, 88, passed away Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Percy A. Hasty, Maple street, with whom he had been living for the past three years. He was born in Calais and as a young man went to Springfield, Maine where he was in the harness making business for a time. In 1900 he went to Bangor and engaged in the grocery business which he carried on until his retirement about 15 years ago. He was a member of the Masonic order for many years and was affiliated with the Springfield lodge. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Annie Hasty of Dexter, Mrs. Lottie L. Driscoll of Metuchem, N. J., and three grandchildren, Mrs. Theodore Mosher of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Alden Berry of Metuchern, N. J. and Kenneth Thornton. Funeral services were held at the Hasty residence Tuesday afternoon at 10 o'clock, the Rev. Kenneth R. Hutchinson officiating, with burial in Mt. Hope cemetery in Bangor. The bearers were Fred O. Herrick, Herbert M. Gates, Peter S. Plouff and Arthur Levensellar.
