Dr. Harvey L. Haskell Funeral services for Dr. Harvey Leroy Haskell were held this afternoon at two o'clock at the Methodist church with the Rev. Frederick L. Niles, pastor of the church and the Rev. Kenneth R. Hutchinson of the First Universalist church officiating. Masonic committal services were held at the grave at Mt. Pleasant cemetery, and the bearers were Clyde Mower, Herbert Downing, Clarence Crosby, Joseph Rand, Rufus Tillson and E. C. Call. The abundance of floral tributes spoke silently of the esteem in which he was held by his many friends and business associates. Dr. Haskell passed away Monday evening at his home on High street following an illness of several months. He was born in Dexter January 12, 1894, the son of the late Charles and Annie Rounds Haskell. After graduating from Dexter High school in 1913, he attended Tufts dental college graduating from there in 1916, where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Delta fraternity. He practiced dentistry in Malden, Mass. one year previous to enlistment in the World War in 1917. He was at Camp Devens until 1918 and served for the duration of the war overseas as captain in the dental corps of the 2nd Division. He returned to Dexter after the war and opened a dental office in partnership with the late Dr. Virgil A. Widdoes, later carrying on his own office until he was forced to retire because of ill health. Dr. Haskell was a past master of Penobscot lodge, F. and A. M. No. 39, and past high priest of St. John's chapter, R. A. M. No. 25, and was treasurer of both orders, in which capacity he had served for a number of years. He was past junior grand warden and past district deputy of the Grand Lodge of Maine, and past patron of Wassookeag chapter No. 44, 0. E. S. He was also a past commander of Edward J. Poulliot post, American Legion, one of the earliest presidents of the Prent-Teacher association, and for several years member of the Dexter school committee. At the time of his death he was a member of the board of trustees of Abbott Memorial library, and had been an officer in the Maine Dental association. He was married to Madelyn Daggett of Dexter in 1923 who survives him. He also leaves three daughters, Hilda Elaine, and Cynthia Haskell, and one sister, Mrs. Bessie Haskell Worth of Hallowell. The Eastern Gazette 11-6-1941, p.4 DR. HARVEY LEROY HASKELL 1894 - 1941 Dr. Harvey LeRoy Haskell was born at Dexter, Maine, January 12, 1894, the son of Charles H. and Annie L. (Rounds) Haskell. He was graduated from Dexter High School in 1913 and from Tufts College Dental School on June 12, 1916, where he was a member of the Delta Eigma Delta fraturnity. For a short time he was associated with Dr. Thomas J. Springall in Malden, Massachusetts. In 1917 he enlisted in the Dental Corps, U. S. Army. He was at Camp Devens until 1918 and served for the duration of the war overseas as captain in the Dental Corps of the 2nd Division. On his dischrage in August 1919, he returned to Dexter where he continued to practice dentistry for twenty years. He was an active and enthusiastic Mason. He was made Master Mason in Penobscot Lodge, No. 39 on May 30 1917. Was Master of his lodge in 1927, and treasurer from 1932 to the time of his death. In the Grand Lodge he was District Deputy Grand Master of the Fifth District, 1929-1930; Grand Senior Deacon, 1932-1933-1934-1935, and Junior Warden in 1937. Aside from his Masonic Activities he was a valuable member of many other organizations. He was one of the earliest presidents of the Parent-Teacher association, a member of the Dexter School Board for six years; Trustee of the Abbott memorial Library; Trustee of the Dexter Cemetery; Commander of Edward J. Poulliot Post, American Legion; member of the Penobscot Valley, Maine and American Dental Associations: and Past Patron of Wassookeag Chapter, No. 44, Q. E. S. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce of Dexter and a member of several important committees. On August 23, 1923 he was united in marriage to Madelyn Daggett and to them were born three daughters, Hilda, Elaine and Cynthia. Contibuted by Mrs. Madelyn Daggett Haskell.
