Obituary
SHIRLEY M. KING Funeral Services for Shirley M. King were held Saturday afternoon from the First Baptist church, Rev. John L. Quigg, of Bar Harbor, former pastor of the local church, officiating assisted by the Rev. George F. Bolster of Orrington. The beautiful floral tokens were in profusion, the entire front of the church being banked with flowers, and the church was filled to capacity with relatives, friends and fraternal associates, members of Plymouth lodge, I. O. O. F. attending in a body. Out of respect for the deceased all places of business in town were closed for one hour. Interment was at Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Relatives attending the funeral services from out of town included Mr. and Mrs. George King, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice King, Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Hanscom, George Hanscom, Roland Hanscom and Mr. and Mrs. Ira C. Hartley, of Orrington; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lear, Lamoine; Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Tibbetts. of Hampden; Mr. and Mrs. Guy C. Marsh, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Marsh, Roland Marsh, Miss Norma Marsh of Brewer; Mrs. Henry M. Quigley, New York City; Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Jewett, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy March, Miss Winona Marsh, of Brewer; Mrs. Phillip Gould, Bangor; Mr. and Mrs. Theo Kirkland, Orrington. Mr. King was born in Bar Harbor, Jan. 16, 1911, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George H. King. He graduated from Brewer High school in 1928 and on June 5, 1933 was united in marriage to Marion B. Marsh of Bangor. They had one daughter, Carol Ann born August 8, 1940. He entered the employ of the Great Atlantic and Pacific Company in Bangor and worked there several years before coming to Dexter in 1933, as manager of the local branch store. He was a director and valued member of the Dexter Chamber of Commerce, a member of Dexter Club, and an officer of Plymouth lodge, I. 0. 0. F. He was a regular attendant at the First Baptist church. At a recent meeting of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce Mr. King was presented with an award of the Roll of Honor certificate of Community Builders. This award is given annually by the "Chain Store Age" to the manager who has rendered outstanding service to his community during the year and the receipt of same was a distinct honor to Mr. King. Surviving besides his parents, wife and daughter, are a brother Maurice King of Orrington; three sisters, Mrs. Erwin Hanscom and Mrs. Ira C. Hartley, of Orrington and Mrs. Joseph Lear of Lamoine.
