Obituary
SUDDEN DEATH OF MRS. BERTHA REDMAN The hosts of friends of Mrs. Bertha V. Redman, widow of the late Dr. Samuel J. Redman were deeply grieved to learn of her sudden death Wednesday evening at her home on Spring street. Although she had not been in the best of health, her condition had not been considered serious and she had participated in lodge and social affairs very recently. A short time ago she also visited her daughter's family in Guilford. Mrs. Redman was born in Hampden, September 6, 1870, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Varney. On March 30, 1889 she married Dr. Redman and lived for nine years in Hampden later moving to Exeter, coming to Dexter from there in 1918. Dr. Redman passed away September 28, 1939. A woman of quiet, unaffected dignity, Mrs. Redman possessed a lovable and gracious character, which with her radiant personality made her beloved by all who knew her. Her fraternal affiliations were with Martha Washington Rebekah lodge, of which she was a past noble grand, and Signet Chapter, O. E. S. of Exeter, as a past worthy matron. She was a member of Martha Washington Sewing club and Faithful Link Past Noble Grands' Association. She was also a member of the local Congregational church, but since its closing has been a regular attendant at the First Baptist church. Funeral services will be held from the home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Ondon P. Stairs officiating. Interment will be in the family lot at Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Delma Small, of Dexter, Mrs. Lora Taylor, of Guilford; two sons, Floyd Redman of Bryant's Pond and George Redman of Dexter; two sisters, Miss Emma Varney of Bangor, Mrs. Flora Temple, Holyoke, Mass.; two brothers, George Varney of Hampden, and Wilson Varney of Plymouth; nine grandchildren Mrs. Gaile Richardson of Ripley, Miss Eleanor Small of Dexter, Wayne O., Samuel J., Elsie F. Redman of Bryant's Pond; Patricia, Virginia, Neale and Diane Taylor of Guilford.
