Obituary	FORMER SELECTMAN DIES IN CALIFORNIA The many friends of John P. Marsh were shocked to learn of his death which occurred in Compton, California January 16 from a heart attack. Mr. Marsh went to California to spend the winter with friends, arriving there January 1. He was born in Ripley April 3, 1869 the son of James Doyle Marsh and Angeline Keene Marsh, on the old Marsh homestead now owned by George MacDougall. He was united in marriage to Addie M. Church August 17, 1895 and to them were born two sons and a daughter, Bernard C., John Fenton and Mary Angeline Marsh. The daughter died in Lewiston in 1931. Mrs. Marsh passed away in October 1936. Mr. Marsh had spent most of his life in Dexter, owning and operating a farm on the Old Ripley Road in District No. 5 for many years. He was prominent in town affairs being superintendent of the Dexter Town Farm for nine years, and serving on the board of selectmen for 18 years. About two years ago he moved to the village where he purchased a home on lower Main street. For the past several months he has been residing at the Curtis House. He was a member of Dexter Grange, Plymouth Lodge, I. O. O. F., of the Methodist church. He was and a faithful attendant and member highly respected and his pleasing personality won for him a wide circle of friends by whom he will be greatly msised. In 1939 Mr. Marsh was presented witha gold-headed cans by neighbors with a gold-headed cane by neighbors in District No. 5. Surviving are two sons, Bernard C. of Old Town and Fenton of West Thornton, N. H.; five grandsons, Bernard L, James P., Robert A., and Donald M. of Old Town and Paul G. of West Thornton, N. H. Funeral services wll be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the First Methodist church with the Rev. Frederick Niles officiating. Interment will be in the family lot at Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
