Obituary
William A. Small William A. Small, 49, prominent local business man died at the Plummer Memorial hospital Friday afternoon after a week's illness from pneumonia. He was born in Dexter the son of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Small, moving to Amsterdam, N. Y. at the age of three years. He attended the Arnold Avenue school and Amsterdam High school, and was a member of the Trinity Reformed church in Amsterdam where he served as pianist. He returned to Dexter in 1912 and for a time was employed in the offices of Fay & Scott before taking over the Judkins Insurance Agency which he has conducted successfully for several years. On September 2, 1916, Mr. Small was united in marriage to Miss Delma Redman of this town. He was a member of Penobscot lodge, F. & A. M., St. John's chapter, Royal Arch Masons, and Wassookeag chapter, 0 E.,S., of Dexter; DeMolay Commandery of Skowhegan; Anah Temple, Mystic Shrine of Bangor; and was a past president of the Dexter club. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Delma Small; his mother, Mrs. W. A. Small of Amsterdam, N. Y.; two daughters, Mrs. Henry Richardson of Portland and Miss Eleanor Small of Dexter; and a brother, Frank Small of California. Funeral services were held from the First Universalist church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Gordon C. Reardon, pastor of the church, officiating. Members of Penobscot Lodge and Wassookeag chapter attended in a body. Bearers were Nathan Bucknam, Rufus Tillson, Charles Ansell, E. C. Call, Donald Champeon and Adolph Dyer. Burial was in Mount Pleasant cemetery. Among the relatives and friends from out-of-town attending the services were, Mrs. W. A. Small of Amsterdam, N. Y., Mrs. Henry Richardson of Portland, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Redman of Bryants Pond, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Redman, Mrs. Annie Redman of Bangor, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Taylor of Guilford, Mr. and J. H. McClure and Miss Dorothy McClure of Bangor.
