Obituary
James F. Kerby James F. Kerby, 83, passed away after a long period of failing health Tuesday evening at his home on Pleasant street. He was born in Dexter the son of James and Diana Curtis Kerby. He attended Dexter High School and Coburn Classical Institute in Waterville, later working in woolen mills in Dexter, Guilford, Keazer Falls and Lawrence, Mass. In 1882, when he was 22 years of age, he opened a confectionery store, in the building now occupied by M. B. Fossa. During his half century in busness, Mr. Kerby won a host of friends throughout this section of the state, many of whom remember him as "Kerby the Candy Man." He retired from active business in July 1933. In 1888 he was united in marriage to Lizzie Estella Moore, who passed away in August 1939. Since Mrs. Kerby's death, he has been cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Homer Gordon and Ralph Gordon. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Ramsay & Gates funeral parlors with the Rev. Gordon C. Reardon officiating.
