Obituary
Edwin A. Shepherd Funeral services for Edwin Abner Shepherd, 80, were held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon from the First Universalist church with the Rev. Gordon C. Reardon officiating. The bearers were Walter Fish, Alonzo Clark, Merle Parkman, Ervin Farrar, Willis Haseltine, and Harry Brawn. Nathan Daggett, Parker Mower, William Austin, Cassius Oliver, A. W. Stone and Fred Dyer were honorary bearers. Mr. Shepherd passed away Tuesday morning at a Bangor hospital after an illness of two months. He was born in Dexter September 28, 1861, the son of the late Abner and Clara Cleaves Shepherd. He was married to Elizabeth Haseltine in 1880, who died in 1935. Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1930. For the greater part of his life Mr. Shepherd made his home in Dexter. From 1902 to 1912, during the time he was manager of the New England branch of the Olds Motor Company in Boston, he lived in Saugus, Mass. During his life he traveled extensively over the United States and Canada and made several trips to Europe. Because of his keen mind, his advice was often sought by many, and he was considered an authority on local history. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Harold W. Dyer of Saugus, Mass. and Mrs. Elwood A. Stevens of Dexter; two grandchildren, Russell Shepherd Dyer of Saugus and Miss Miriam Elizabeth Stevens of Dexter; and one great grandson, Richard Walter Dyer of Saugus, also one brother, Luman C. Shepherd of Dexter.
