Obituary	GABRIEL J. "GUBBY" CLEAVES DEXTER - Gabriel "Gubby" Cleaves, 75, died unexpectedly at his residence September 10, 1995. He was born May 10, 1920 in Dexter the son of Frank and Violet (Provost) Cleaves. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Annes Parish. Gubby was a meat cutter for many years at LaGasse's IGA in Dexter, and also worked for a time at Dexter Shoe Company. After retiring, he worked at Bud's Shop & Save in Dexter. He was an avid Dexter Tigers sports fan. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Ruth (Patten) Cleaves of Dexter; his children, Michael Cleaves of Etna, and Melinda Cleaves Carr and her husband Dennis of Lee; his step-children, Carma Ricker Stevens and husband Dennis of Exeter, Brian Ricker of Dover-Foxcroft, and Judy Ricker Gustin and husband Alverdo of Dexter; 3 sisters, Luciene Doucette of Lewiston, Anita Clukey of Sangerville, and Lillian DeMaris of Newport; 4 brothers, Omar Cleaves and Philip Cleaves, both of Dexter, Paul Cleaves of Madison, and Gerald Cleaves of Jericho, Vermont; an Aunt Emma Millett (100 years old) of Bangor; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Henry and Roland Cleaves, and a step-daughter, Susan Ricker. Friends called September 12 at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 238 Main Street, Dexter. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated September 13 at St. Annes Church, Dexter, with Reverend Antonio Amato officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Milo, followed by a gathering for family and friends at St. Annes Parish Center, Dexter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Dexter Regional High School Athletic Department.
