Obituary
CHARLES H. ANSELL DEXTER - Charles Henry Ansell, 98, November 4, 1992, at a Dexter nursing home. He was born January 14, 1894, at Windsor, Quebec, Canada, the son of Arthur and Elizabeth (Clark) Ansell. After spending his early childhood in Windsor, he moved with his family to St. Catharines, Ontario, where he received his formal schooling. In 1911, he moved to Dexter to study the woolen business with his uncle, George Park. In 1917, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving as a corporal with the 224th Aero Service Squadron in the United States and England. In 1919, he married Grace Murphy. He was employed as manager of the George Park Manufacturing Co. and later, manager of the Dumbarton Woolen Mills. In the early 1950's, he moved to South Carolina, where he was a manager for the Berkshire Woolen Co. His wife, Grace and youngest daughter, Dorothy Ansell Hague, predeceased him in 1968, and he then returned to Dexter. He served on the Dexter Board of Selectmen in the 1930's and was instrumental in instituting the town manager form of government. He was active in the First Universalist Church, and was a Past Commander of the American Legion. He was also a Past Master of Penobscot Lodge No. 39, AF & AM and was a member of the Shrine. He also served on the Board of Plummer Memorial Library. He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Gatlin of Tacoma, Wash. and Isabel Jacobs of Dexter; 13 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, as well as several step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held November 8 at the First Universalist Church, with the Rev. Alec Craig officiating. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Memorial Fund of the First Universalist Church, P.O. Box 294, Dexter, or to the Dexter Sunshine Club, care of Mrs. Althea Johnson, RFD 2 Dexter 04930.
