MERLE P. DUBAY DEXTER - Merle Philip Dubay, 74, husband of the late Phyllis (Maynard) Dubay, died May 9, 1993, at his Cedar Street residence. He was born June 17, 1918, at Dexter, the son of Philip and Ruth (Dyer) Dubay. He graduated from N. H. Fay High School in Dexter and attended the University of Southern Maine and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He was briefly employed at his father's restaurant, Phil's Lunch, and was oil department manager for Bailey Motors in Dexter. He was a manager of the Old Park Theatre and was also employed for four years at Webber's Plumbing and Heating and 18 years at Fay & Scott Oil Co. He taught oil burner mechanics for Manpower Development in Bangor. He was the plumbing and heating instructor for 10 years at Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Presque Isle, retiring in 1980. For 45 years, Merle had served the Katahdin Area Council, Boy Scouts of American, as cubmaster for Pack 75, Dexter; scoutmaster and committee chairman of Troop 51 chairman of Leadership Training, Penquis District; district commissioner; and was a past chairman of Penquis District. He was also a member of the Executive Board of the Katahdin Area Council. He was a member of the "Order of the Arrow", and held the Wood Badge and Training Beads. He was awarded scouting's highest civilian award, the Silver Beaver. He served for 18 years on the Dexter Volunteer Fire Department and 18 years on the Dexter Utility District. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dexter. He is survived by two sons, Michael of Lowell, MA, and Kevin of Old Orchard Beach; one granddaughter, Stephanie of Lowell, MA; five brothers, Ray, Richard, Gary, Dana and David; and one sister, Greta; several nieces and nephews. Services were held May 12 at Crosby and Neal Funeral Home, Dexter, with the Rev. Judson Stone, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Donations may be made in his memory to the Save Little Fitts Pond Fund for Scouting at Camp Roosevelt, care of Crosby and Neal Funeral Home, 238 Main St., Dexter, 04930.
