Obituary
Luman Colson Shepherd, a lifelong resident of Dexter and for many years one of the town's prominent businessmen, passed away at a Bangor hospital, Sunday night. Luman Shepherd was born in 1871, the son of Clara Cleaves Shepherd and Abner Shepherd. He attended the Dexter High School. As a young man, he worked for the American Express and as a city carrier for the post office. For several years he traveled throughout the eastern states for the Knowles wholesale furniture company. In 1898 he married Grace Cushman, who died in 1938. Two daughters were born to this union, one died in infancy and the other, Mrs. Wilfred Slater of Dexter, survives him. Soon after his marriage, he became an agent for the Strout Farm Agency, and conducted for many years an insurance and real estate business at his office on Church Street and later in the block now known as the Koritsky Block which he had purchased. In 1944 he married Maude Bean who survives him. The funeral will be held at two p. m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wilford Slater, on Church St.
