Obituary	NEWELL T. FERN DEXTER - Newell Thomas Fern, 90, died August 21, 1996, at a Dexter health care facility, following a brief illness. He was born May 19, 1906, in Dexter, Maine, the son of Will N. and Nettie (Paine) Fern. He attended Dexter schools. He lived and farmed in Dexter all his life. For the last year and a half he made his home with his son Ron and wife Rosena. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dexter for over 50 years, and was a 75-year member of the Dexter Grange No. 105. On December 25, 1929, he married, Esther Libby of Dexter, who predeceased him in July 1990. He is survived by eight children and their families: Ethel N. Fern of Dexter; Frances and Donald Libby of Bangor; Marian and Clair Wood of Veazie, and Daniel, Douglas and Brian; Newell Thomas, Jr. and Louise Fern of Clifton, and Stephen and Nancy; Ronald and Rosena Fern of Dexter, and Lori, Alan, and Wendy; Bruce and Carol Fern of Bridgeport, CT, and Marcia, Bruce Jr., Susan, Sandra and Carol E.; Jean and Ralph Rollins of Garland, and Ernest; and Joyce and Paul MacDonald of Carmel. He is also survived by two great-granddaughters: Amanda Wood and Ashlee Fern, by an "adopted" daughter, Cindy Emerson, and by several cousins. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 24, at the First Baptist Church, Main and Free Streets, Dexter, with the Reverends John Ross and Edward Johnston officiating. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Stained Glass Window Fund at the First Baptist Church, 449 Main Street, Dexter ME 04930.
