Obituary	Dr. Charles H. Haines was born in Dexter, Maine, November 20, 1858, the son of Dr. George A. Haines and Martha (Severance) Haines. He was born and lived in the homestead which is still standing at the northerly corner of Maine and Lincoln street. He received his early education in the public schools of Dexter and then began professional study in the Boston Dental College (now known as Tufts College) from which he was graduated in the class of 1880, receiing the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. In that year he began practice in the Bucknam & Mountain building and there he was successfully engaged up to the time of his father's death. He then took over his father's practice, locating in his father's office in the Titcomb building, and taking care of his own patients and those of his father. Later he removed to an office in the Fish block and finally located permanently in the Bank block. In this office he practiced his chosen profession to within a few months of his death, forty-six years in all. With one or two exceptions Dr. Haines was the oldest practicing dentist in Maine. He died February 6, 1924. Dr. Haines was closely connected with the Maine Dental Society for many years, having served as president and as vice president. He was a Mason of high standing, a member of Penobscot lodge of Dexter, and of St. John's Chapter, St. John's Commandery of Bangor, Maine. He was also a member of Plymouth lodge of Odd Fellows, Bedevere lodge of Knights of Pythias and a charter member of Dexter Club. He was also one of the original members of Elkinstown Club. Dr. Haines was twice married. His first wife was Mrs. Elizabeth Nichols Tibbetts, who died in 1894. In 1898 be married Miss Susie M. Gove of Dexter. Two sons were born of this union, Kenneth Hoffman Haines born April 10, 1902 and Charles Favor Haines, born March 9, 1907. Kenneth H. Haines was a musician of note. He died of pneumonia in 1940. Charles F. Haines is now in the service of his country, at this time stationed in Italy. Mrs. Susie Haines is living in Dexter. Dr. Haines was well known in this community, but will perhaps be best remembered as an entertainer and impersonator. He was always interested in dramatics and helped to bring out much talent among the younger people of the town. He, and his lifelong friend, Charles R. Favor, for whom his younger son was named, organized the Favor & Haines Comedy Company and gave many well remembered entertainments in this town and in many nearby towns. The Favor & Haines Comedy Company was reorganized after the doctor's death and is still in existence. Dr. Haines and Charles Favor's impersonations; original songs, and sketches are remembered at the present time by the older residents of Dexter and vicinity. Dr. Charles H. Haines died February 6, 1924 and was buried in the family plot in Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Dexter.
