Obituary
DENNIS M. CLEAVES DEXTER & PORTLAND Dennis M. Cleaves, 91, of Park Danforth Portand, and formerly of Dexter, died October 12, 2000. He was born March 22, 1909 in Dexter the son of Edward and Nellie Cleaves. He graduated from N. H. Fay High School, Class of 1928. He married the former Dorothy Clark in 1937 and was a prominent businessman in Dexter. He had many successful businesses including a grocery store, Clark's Chevrolet garage, Clark's Mobile Home Sales and Clark's Furniture Company. Mr. and Mrs. Cleaves enjoyed wintering in Florida for many years after his retirement in 1965. He was a communicant of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Dexter and was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was also a long time member of the Dexter Club. In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is survived by a son, Dennis M. Cleaves, Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, FL; 2 daughters, Meredyth Chabot of Cumberland and Cynthia Simpson of Casco; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Penelope Richardson of Windham. Friends called October 15th at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated October 16 at St. Anne's Church in Dexter with the Rev. Raymond Morency officiating. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, State of Maine Chapter, 107 Woodville Road, Falmouth, ME 04107.
