Obituary	Nathan Forbes Roberts 1825-1896 Mr. Roberts was born in the town of Sumner, November 1825, and when quite young moved with his parents to Sangerville. He was employed at an early age in the shoe shop of Gilbert D. Parshley, in that town, learning the trade. Later he spent a year in the harness shop of his uncle, Jonathan Roberts of Foxcroft. On leaving Foxcroft he went to Norway and entered into partnership with a man by the name of Records. The firm was fairly successful but after a year spent in Norway, Mr. Roberts disposed of his interest and came to Dexter, 1858. His first business in Dexter was manufacturing boots and shoes. At one time he employed several hands. When the demand for custom made footwear fell off he discontinued manufacturing and conducted a retail store. Mr. Roberts took an active interest in the welfare of the town. He was on the board of Selectmen at three different times. At one time he filled the office of Deputy Sheriff. He was appointed postmaster under Harrison's administration serving until July 1896. Mr. Roberts was also active in politics and served in the State Legislature. At the same time his son, Frank was in the Legislature from Brunswick. Mr. Roberts was a member of the Independent Order of Odd fellows. He was one of the five charter members of Silver Lake Encampment and a member of Martha Washington Rebekah Lodge. Se married Miss Augusta Parshley a daughter of Gilbert D. Parshley The children were Frank E., Nathan E., Charles D. and Mary Augusta (wife of J. Willis Haines). Mr. Roberts was a man who was generally likes. In his business relations and public services he had many friends.
