Obituary
JOHN W. TOWLE DEXTER - John W. Towle, 87, died April 2, 1997 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. He was born July 6, 1909 at Dexter, the son of Albert and Amy (Chase) Towle. He attended Dexter schools. John served in the US Navy during World War II and retired as an ironworker. He was a life member and past commander of Shirley B. Carter Post #4298 Veterans of Foreign Wars and a life member of the Cooties, a branch of the VFW. He was also a member of Poulliot-Seavey Post #53 American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Thelma (Clukey) Towle of Dexter; three sons, John Towle of Virginia Beach VA, Leslie Towle of Etna and Dennis Towle of S. China; one brother Leon Towle of Dexter; four grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Morris, Nathan and Richard "Red" Towle. Funeral services were held Sunday, April 6 at Crosby and Neal Funeral Home, 238 Main Street, Dexter, with Rev. Barry Buzzell officiating. A military committal service will be held in West Garland Cemetery later in the spring.
