Mrs. Gertrude Chase Waldron Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Chase Waldron, 74, who died suddenly October 11 in Newport at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vernard Lancaster where she had been visiting, were held Monday at 2 o'clock in the First Universalist Church in Dexter. The Rev. Gordon Chilson Reardon, officiated. Mrs. Waldron was born in Dexter July 24, 1872, the daughter of Edward H. Chase and Charlotte Shaw Chase. In her young womanhood, she was a telegraph operator. Later, during the time that her father served as postmaster, she was employed as a clerk in the local post office. She married the late Lafayette B. Waldron 49 years ago. A woman of keen intellect, a splendid character, and a true friend; she was a willing worker in all civic, social, and church activities. Mrs. Waldron was a member of the First Universalist church, a charter member of the Eastern Star lodge, a member of the Sunshine club, the Dexter Woman's Literary club, of which she was president several times, and a member of the U. F. club. She also served as overseer of the poor for a time. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Grace Waldron Schummrick of Orange, Conn., two sons, James Neal Waldron of Brunswidk and Richard Shailer Waldron of Bethel; and four grandchildren. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant cometery. At the committal service, a prayer was offered by the Rev. Hannah Powell of Waterville, a cousin of the deceased. Bearers were: Carl Bates, Adrian Robinson, Millard Otto, Vernard Lancaster, George Safford and Harry Blake. Out of town people here for the service were: Mr. and Mrs. John Campbell, Mrs. Charles W. Chase and daughter, and athe Rev. Hannah Powell all of Waterville; Mrs. Horace Priest of Enfield; Mr. and Mrs. William L. Waldron, Mrs. Adelia R. Waldron of Pittsfield; Mr. and Mrs. Perley Ireland of Corinna; Mr. and Mrs. Vernard Lancaster of Newport; and Mrs. Percy Butters of Exeter.
