AVIS NATHLIE TITCOMB DAVIS DEXTER - Avis T. Davis, of 17 Free Street, Dexter, died Saturday afternoon, September 2, 1989, at her home in Dexter. She was born March 24, 1910, the daughter of Amasa and Serene (Trickey) Titcomb. Her early years were spent in East Corinth, until 1918, when the Titcomb family moved to Dexter where she lived for the rest of her life. She graduated from N.H. Fay High School in 1929 and married Howard Leslie Davis St. on September 15, 1940. She worked for several years at the Poland Spring House. In 1956, she and her husband purchased a clothing business from her brother Carl, which they owned and operated as the Titcomb-Davis Store in Dexter until their retirement. She was deeply involved in many social and religious organizations including, but not limited to, The Daughters of the American Revolution, Dexter Historical Society, and Order of the Eastern Star. She served as state president of Colonial Dames of the 17th Century; past president of the Regent of Rebecca Western Chapter D.A.R.; past president of the Dexter Women's Literary Club; past noble grand of the Martha Washington Rebekah Lodge; and member of the Dexter Grange. She was a devoted member of the Christian Science Society of Newport and a member of the mother church in Boston, Mass. She is survived by her beloved husband of Dexter; two sons and their wives, Howard Leslie Davis Jr. and Claudia of Dexter, and Paul Titcomb Davis and Patricia of Sangerville; one brother, Carl Titcomb of Newport; three sisters, Gertrude Dawson of Bangor, Marion of Elk Grove, Calif., and Barbara Brough of Palm Springs, Calif.; six grandchildren, Stewart, Allen, Todd and Kevin of Dexter, and Heidi Lynn and Paul Jr. of Sangerville; two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Franklin; and a sister, Beatrice. Visiting hours will be held 7-8 p.m. Monday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 238 Main St., Dexter. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Dexter Historical Society, care of Peter Neal of the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home.
