Obituary
Mrs. Annie W. Murphy, 79, widow of Dr. J. H. Murphy, and one of our highly respected and prominent, residents of Dexter, died suddenly Monday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles H. Ansell. Born in Dexter, January 7, 1867, the daughter of Samuel A. and Sarah Lane Winslow, she had resided here most of her life. Mrs. Murphy was a graduate of Dexter High school in the class of 1885, a member of the First Universalist church, the Sunshine club, Dexter Woman's Literary club, Rebecca Weston Chapter, D. A. R., and the Dexter Garden club. She was also very active in the work of the Red Cross during World Wars I and II. Several very interesting hobbies were included in her many interest; among them being stamp collecting, bird study, flowers, and her splendid scrapbooks containing historical sketches and articles of interest about Dexter. She also assisted in editing a column in the local paper giving the history of the town. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Charles H. Ansell of Dexter; a sister, Miss Sarah P. Winslow of Dexter; three granddaughters, Mrs. Elizabeth A. Gatlin of Cherry Point, N. C., Mrs. Isabel A. Jacobs of Orono; Miss Dorothy Ansell of Dexter; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the First Universalist church, the Rev. Gordon Chilson Reardon officiated. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The bearers were Reynold Thompson, Rufus L. Tillson, Robert Cinq-Mars, Millard G. Otto, Frederick Quigley and Charles S. Brewster.
