Obituary
VERNON E. BURTON DEXTER and HOLIDAY, Fla. - Vernon E. Burton, 71, died April 5, 1992, at a Waterville hospital. He was born February 9, 1921, in Dexter, the son of Darrol and Georgia (Thurston) Burton. He graduated from N.H. Fay High School in Dexter. He served in the Army during World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in Springfield, Mass., for many years. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Trinity United Methodist Church of Springfield, Mass., and the National Association of Letter Carriers. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude (Farnham) Burton of Holiday, Fla.; two sons, Jeffrey W. Burton of E. Long Meadow, Mass., and Mark D. Burton of Holiday, Fla.; a brother, Olan Burton of Dexter; two sisters, Gertrude Field of Dexter and Winnifred Mitchell of East Corinth; two granddaughters, Jennifer Burton and Christena Burton; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Ronald Burton. Private graveside services were held April 10 at Hillcrest Park in Springfield, Mass., with the Rev. Lloyd Chorpenning officiating.
