Obituary
LEVI R. HANSON DEXTER - Levi R. Hanson, 76, died June 12, 1989 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital after a long illness. He was born December 4, 1912 at Ripley, the son of Clarence and Maude (Foss) Hanson. He attended Cambridge schools and the Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield. On January 1, 1939 he married Mildred Foster. He was a self-employed livestock dealer for most of his life. He also owned and operated the Ripley General Store for eight years and was employed most recently at Bud's Shop'n Save. He was a member of the Cambridge Masonic Lodge No. 157, a member of the United States Trotting Association for many years, and a member of the Maine Harness Horseman's Association. He was both an owner and trainer of race horses and served as a track official for racing meets. He is survived by his wife of Dexter; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Earlene of Winslow and Gary and Brenda of Ripley; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Marvin Jones of Skowhegan; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Hildrith Blanche of Manchester and Geraldine and Horace Landry of Saco; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Russell of Lagrange and Thea Stewart of Port Charlotte, Fla.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Pauline Thorndike; and a brother, Joseph Hanson. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 238 Main St., Dexter where Masonic services will be held 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Frank Twombly officiating. Interment will be in Ferndale Cemetery, Ripley. Donations may be made in his memory to the Cambridge Square and Compass Club. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
