Obituary	ESTHER L. FERN DEXTER - Esther L. Fern, 82, died July 14, 1990, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. She was born June 23, 1908, at Cambridge, the daughter of Perley and Ethel (Orr) Libby. She graduated from N.H. Fay High School, Class of 1926, and attended Colby College in Waterville. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Dexter, where she taught the adult Sunday School class and tended the nursery for many years. She was known as "Grammie" to several generations. She was an active member and former president of the, Women's Christian Temperance Union. She was a 50-year member of both the Dexter Grange #105 and the Martha Washington Rebekah Lodge #18. SHe also participated in the Dexter Extension. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Newell T. Fern of Dexter; three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Louise Fern of Clifton, Ronald and Rosena Fern of Dexter, and Bruce and Carol Fern of Bridgeport, CT; five daughters, Ethel Fern of Dexter, Frances Fern of Bangor, Marian Wood and her husband, Clair, of Veazie, Jean Rollins and her husband, Ralph, of Garland, and Joyce Fern of Garland; one sister, Madeline Wakefield of Dexter; one sister-in-law, Olla Libby of Augusta; 14 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and an "adopted" daughter, Cindy Emerson of Garland. Friends called Monday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 238 Main Street, Dexter. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Dexter with the Rev. Judson Stone and John Dunn Jr. officiating. Interment was in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Nursery Fund, care of First Baptist Church, Main Street, Dexter 04930.
