Obituary
JOHN E. GILES SR. DEXTER and GARLAND - John E. Giles Sr., 92, died May 3, 1990 at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. He was born November 8, 1897 at Clifton, the son of Harry and Dellie (White) Giles. He attended Dexter schools and served in the 103rd Infantry, U.S. Army, during World War I. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret, who died in 1976; and by his second wife, Louise, who died in 1981. He farmed in Garland for many years, and was employed as a machinist at Fay and Scott Machine Shop, retiring in 1959. He was a member of the Dexter Pentecostal Church, Poulliot-Seavey American Legion Post #53 of Dexter, the Garland Grange and the Dexter Fish and Game Association. He also served for several years in the National Guard. He is survived by two sons, Gerald of Saco and John Jr. of Garland; two daughters, Marguerite Ordway of Corinna, and Elizabeth "Betty" Clukey of Dexter; one brother, Floyd of Clifton; three sisters, Relief Knowles and Dorothea Hughes, both of St. Albans, and Ethel Leavitt of Hartland; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Lucy; two brothers, Clarence and George; and a sister, Grace Murray. Friends called on May 4, 1990 at Crosby and Neal Funeral Home, Dexter, where funeral services were held the following day with the Rev. Ronald Libby officiating. Interment was in the West Garland Cemetery.
