Obituary
LEWIS HARTFORD DEXTER - Lewis L. Hartford, 61, died accidentally on March 19 in Dexter when he was struck by a failing tree. He was born in Presque Isle Feb. 21, 1922, son of Chester and Georgianna Labrie Hartford. He graduated from Dexter schools in 1940 and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and was a communicant of St. Anne's Catholic Church here and the Knights of Columbus. He was a Charter Member of the Dexter Jaycees and also held many offices in the Jaycees. He was employed by the Fay and Scott Machine Shop (presently the Bullard Co.) for over 40 years. He is survived by his mother of Dexter; his widow, Lois Gilky Hartford, of Dexter; two sons, David of Groton, Mass., and John of Rochester, N.Y.; one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Judy) Stanley, of Richmond; four brothers, Arthur, Chester and Ronald, all of Dexter, and Arnold of Newport; one sister, Mrs. Vincent (Geneva) Pisano, of Brookfield, Conn.; and five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anne's Church, Dexter. Prayers and a Knights of Columbus service was held. Legion services took place at the Crosby Funeral Home, Dexter. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery later this spring.
