Obituary	CLARA S. CROWELL DEXTER - Clara S. Crowell, 88, died January 7, 1989, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital, after a brief illness. She was born June 17, 1900, at Dexter, the daughter of George and Nora (Shepley) Sawtelle. She attended Dexter schools and married Earl L. Crowell on October 19, 1921. They operated a dairy farm in Corinna until retiring in 1965, when they moved to Dexter. They were instrumental in founding the Dexter Golden Age Club, and were active as 70 year members of the Dexter Grange. They were also members of the East Somerset Pomona Grange, Maine State Grange and National Grange. They were members of the local A.A.R.P. After 62 years of marriage, Earl predeceased her in August of 1983. For many years, Clara enjoyed raising flowers. Among her survivors are one son, Clyde of Dexter; three daughters, Helen Black of Dexter, Mrs. Wendell (Evelyn) Golden of El Paso, Texas and Mrs. Harry (Earlene) Black of West Bath; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. At her request, there will be no public visiting hours or funeral services. Private visiting hours and graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. Spring interment will be in Higgins Cemetery, Corinna. Donations may be made in her memory tot he State Grange Memorial Fund, care of Mr. Ronald Doloff, Box 294, Waldoboro, 04572.
