Obituary
CHARLES S. ATWATER WAYCROSS, GA - Charles S. Atwater, 73, died August 19, 1986 at his residence in the Jamestown community following an extended illness. He was a retired building contractor and a native of Sangerville. He moved to Waycorss in 1939 to pitch baseball for the Waycross Bears. He later played baseball with the Greenville and Greenwood, South Carolina teams. He was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church and was the son of the late Jospeh Edgar Atwater and Eva Sanborn Atwater. He is survived by his wife, Helen James Atwater, Jamestown, Georgia; a daughter, Barbara Parks, Birmingham, Alabama; six sisters, Doris Potts and Barbara Clark, both of Lake Worth, Florida; Eleanor Easley and Julia Roberts, both of Dexter; Imogene Cameron of Bangor; and Wilda Bridgham of Portland; five brothers, Randall Atwater, Pace, Florida; Hugh Atwater, Lake Worth, Florida; Robert and Roland Atwater, both of Dexter; and Maurice Atwater of Jacksonville, Florida; two grandsons, Charlie Parks and David Parks. The funeral serivce was held Thursday, August 22 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home chapel. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery. The pallbearers were: John Parks, Mark James, Anthony Welch, Bart Thigpen, Dr. Thomas G. Holmes and Card Smith. The family received friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening. Memorial may be given to the American Cancer Society.
