Obituary
Ralph M. Stewart Funeral services were held April 26 at his late home, 9 Madison Street, Bangor, for Ralph M. Stewart, who died April 23, after several years of failing health. He was born October 31, 1879, in Williamsburg, Maine, the son of Edwin and Hattie Decker Stewart. He is survived by his wife, Bessie Bailey Stewart, whom he married November 25, 1909, and by their two children, Carl M. Stewart, of Bangor,, and Louise E. Stewart, R.N of Belfast, also three grandsons, David, John and Richard Stewart. Shortly after his marriage, he purchased a farm in Garland, which he conducted until about twelve years ago when he moved to Bangor. He was active in town affairs in Garland, having been on the board of selectmen for several years. From 1922 to his retirement in the fall of 1945, he was a deputy sheriff for Penobscot County. He was devoted to his home and family, generous and honest in his dealings with all, and ever ready with a helping hand or word. Perhaps his happiest years were spent on his farm for he loved the great outdoor, had an unusual fondness for farm animals and household pets, and keenly enjoyed hunting and fishing. Services were conducted by the Rev. John N. Feaster, pastor of Hammond Street Congregational Church. The floral tributes were profuse and beautiful. Acting as bearers were former associates in county offices: Clair Friend, Leslie Stanley, Arthur Chandler and Andre Cushing. Interment was in Hathaway Cemetery in Garland.
