Obituary
DEXTER WOMAN DIES IN BURNING HOME Mrs. Esther Robinson Ireland was suffocated in a fire which destroyed the Ireland home on Mill street Monday afternoon. Mrs. Ireland, who had been ill in bed for several days, was alone at the time the fire broke out, from an overheated stove, and she was found dead on the floor at the foot of her bed when reached by firemen within a few minutes after their arrival at the scene. When the fire was discovered and the alarm rung in, the flames had gained great headway, and the firemen found the building burning fiercely in the interior and dense smoke was coming from all the windows. Much credit is due the members of the fire department in confining the blaze to the one structure, the walls of which remain standing, and especially to be commended are the two firemen who entered the blazing building and with difficulty found and removed the body of Mrs. Ireland. Alarms were rung in from two seperate boxes causing a confusing signal but the fire department responded quickly to the call. Mr. Ireland was at work at the Fay and Scott foundry at the time of the tragedy. Dr. H. L. Taylor, medical examiner reported that the victim died of suffocation, receiving burns after death. The house, which was formerly the office of the White mill was owned by Edward Chase and was insured. The home furnishings, were a total loss and were not insured. The estimated total loss was about $2,000. Funeral services for Mrs. Ireland was held this afternoon, Thursday at 2:30 o'clock at the Pentecostal church, the Rev. Werner Johnson officiating and interment will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery. She was born 53 years ago in Bangor, the daughter of Andrew and Cora Town Carter and has been a resident of Dexter for a number of years. She leaves a sister and a brother in Bangor.
