Obituary
Bert Nowell Bert Nowell, 81, died March 30, from a heart ailment, two weeks following the death of his wife, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gardner Farmer in Bucksport. Although he had been in failing health for several years his passing came as a shock to his family and friends. He was born in Fairfield May 19, 1865, the son of Edward and Adeline Preble Nowell. In his younger days he learned the barbering trade and conducted a shop in Gardiner before coming to Dexter thirty-six years ago to open a boarding house. He later returned to Gardiner and resumed his old trade until ill health forced him to retire. He was married to Esther Green in 1891 and five years ago they passed their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Mr. Nowell was a member of the Masonic lodge in Gardiner and of the Gardiner Methodist church. Funeral services were held from the Clark-Mitchell funeral home In Bucksport, Monday afternoon, the Rev. A. E. Luce officiating. Burial for both Mr. and Mrs. Nowell will be at Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Dexter later this spring. Mr. Nowell is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Edith Farmer of Bucksport, Mrs. Alice Pynes of Dexter, Mrs. Gretchen Boardman of Gardiner; an step-daughter Mrs. Annie Peacock, Augusta; two sons, George of Winthrop, Mass., Carleton of Boston; two brothers, Jerry Nowell of Gardiner, Milton Nowell of Portland; seventeen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
