MARION ETHEL SMART NORWOOD, MASS. and DEXTER, MAINE – Marion Ethel Smart died on Nov. 17, 1980 after a long illness. Born on May 4, 1896 in Dexter, she was one of seven children of the late George Albion and Marion Ethel Brann Smart. She attended local schools graduating from N.H. Fay High School in 1915. She also graduated from Farmington Normal School in 1917 and later from Boston University. She taught in the Norwood, Mass. Junior High School where she was a legal resident since 1921. She also maintained and enjoyed a summer cottage at Waldheim on Lake Wassookeag, Dexter, Maine since 1926. She was involved in many community, as well as non-community, charitable projects. One of her more notable services was that of her 53 year devotion in various capacities to the First Congregational Church of Norwood, Mass. Marnie, as she was popularly known, is survived by a long time friend and companion, Helen P. Gale of Norwood, Mass. and nephews - James P. Granger of Brunswick, Maine, Peter Granger of Bridgewater, New Jersey, Rodney S. Page of Rumford Point, Maine, Samuel Page of Dexter, Maine - nieces - Mrs. Jean Sawyer of Springfield, Mass. and Mrs. Marion Sinderson of Bethesda, Maryland. A memorial service will be held in the Free Baptist Church in Dexter, Maine, Rev. Warren Johnson officiating, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 1980. In lieu of flowers, we encourage contributions in her memory to the First Congregational Church of Norwood, Mass. or a charity of your choice.
