Obituary	CLARENCE N. PIERCE DEXTER - Clarence N. Pierce, 94, died Oct. 23, 1984, at a Dover hospital after a short illness. Mr. Pierce was born in Northwood, N.H., May 20, 1890, son of Charles S. and Clara (Giles) Pierce. After attending the public schools of Farmington, N.H., Mr. Pierce entered Dover Business College in Dover, N.H., graduating in 1908, where he remained as an assistant. In 1910 he moved to Dexter and entered the employ of the First National Bank as a clerk. In 1911, the First National Bank of Dexter and the Dexter Savings Bank were consolidated, becoming Dexter Trust & Banking Co., of which Mr. Pierce was made assistant manager. He served until 1919 in this official capacity. The bank was taken over by Merrill Trust Co., and in 1922 he was made manager of the bank, serving until 1935. After that, he and George H. Hall formed the partnership of Pierce & Hall which later became Pierce Agency operated by Mr. Pierce until quite recently. Mr. Pierce was a Republican. He had served as Dexter town treasurer since 1917. Until his recent retirement from that office, he had been elected by the voters of Dexter from 1917 to 1974 (58 times) and appointed by the Dexter council from 1975 to 1982 (eight times) for a total of 66 years. He was auditor of the Dexter Loan & Building Association. He was a member of Plymouth Lodge Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of which he was a past grand and Silver Lake Encampment No. 30, of which he was a past chief patriarch. He was also a member of Dexter Canton No. 8 and a lieutenant-colonel in the second regiment, department of Maine, Patriarchs Militant of America and of Martha Washington Lodge of Rebekahs and Dexter Grange No. 155 Patrons of Husbandry. He was secretary of Dexter Grange and clerk of the corporation known as Dexter Grange Store, owned by the Dexter Grange. Mr. Pierce was a member of the First Baptist Church, which he had served in several capacities. His wife, Alma (Morrison) Pierce, predeceased him in 1982. Mr. and Mrs. Pierce had three children, Reynold N. of Dexter, Dean S. of Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. Helen Morin of Dexter; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Friday, at the First Baptist Church, Dexter. Friends called at Crosby Funeral Home, Dexter, on Thursday. Odd Fellows services were also held. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church Pew Bible Fund in care of the church treasurer, Pauline Johnson.
